WHAT IS THE PROPER METHOD FOR REMOVING AND INSTALLING A GEARBOX IN A WIND TURBINE?
Jul 7th
Question by avatar:
what is the proper method for removing and installing a gearbox in a wind turbine?
i have been set a task by my college tutor to research the proper method of removing and re-installing the gearbox in a Vestas V27 wind turbine…
if nobody can provide me with a method how about a few useful links?
it doesnt have to be specific to a vestas machine as i’m sure that the method for removing the part is roughly the same for all turbines.
thank you in advance

Q&A: 6 MONTHS OF TRAINING TO BE A WIND TURBINE TECH TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE?
Jun 11th
Question by Ben:
6 months of training to be a Wind Turbine Tech too good to be true?
I’m looking into a school that charges 11K in tuition for training in wind turbine maintenance. They state they will help with finding employment. A condition is that you must be open to relocation. I am not looking for Per Diem or contract work. I have a family and like to be around them.
Anybody in the industry or knowledgeable about it feel that after 6 months of training, one would be able to land a solid job without relocating 1000 miles? The school is in the Northwest.

Q&A: IS IT POSSIBLE TO HOOK UP A WIND TURBINE TO A CAMPER VAN/CARAVAN TO CREATE AND STORE ENERGY FOR LATER USE?
Jun 6th
Question by FishMan:
Is it possible to hook up a wind turbine to a camper van/caravan to create and store energy for later use?
I was wondering if it wold be possible to rig up a mini wind turbine on the top of a camper van so that when you are driving it would create energy to store in a battery.
Or would the extra energy needed to drive the van due, to the drag from the, any energy made by the turbine?
If so can you get mini camping turbines?
Thanks,
Martin.
Thanks for all your replies, they are great!
The plan is to use the turbine to charge a separate battery, not the actual one used to begin the car. The second battery will then be used for music, laptop and other small electrical appliances.
I saw a guy on the UK version of Dragons Den who had a mini turbine but I was thinking that someone else must have done it already!
If anyone knows of any websites that sell them then that would be a great help too!
I look forward to your replies, thank you all so much!
Martin.

WOULD IT BE AN IDEA OF BUILDING A WIND TURBINE ON A CAR?
May 31st
Question by JvN:
Would it be an idea of building a wind turbine on a car?
Say you have a hybride automobile and would build a wind turbine on the roof of it (or build it inside the automobile so it will catch a lot of wind) to gain some electricity back. Could this be an option to reduce the nett energy consumption? Why would or would not it be?
