CAN SOMEONE EXPLAIN THIS STATEMENT ABOUT SOLAR ENERGY TO ME?
Mar 22nd
Question by :
can someone explain this statement about solar energy to me?
“There is enough solar energy in Texas to power half the United States, just have to figure out the most efficient way to harness it.”
when discussing solar energy & you hear “power half the USA,” what exactly is meant? do they mean an abundance of power as in run your AC on 60 degrees all day because we have enough? i know that sounds silly, but im wondering, what exactly is that statement speaking about supplying power to?
and why do they specify texas? whats different about the sun in texas compared with anywhere else in the world?

CAN SOMEONE HELP ME UNDERSTAND THIS STATEMENT ABOUT SOLAR ENERGY?
Mar 1st
Question by Da Vinci Herself:
Can someone help me comprehend this statement about Solar Energy?
So I am reading this article on Wikipedia about Solar Energy. I have to do this project about biofuels, and solar energy is one of them. It says:
“Solar technologies are broadly characterized as either passive or active depending on the way they capture, convert and distribute sunlight. Active solar techniques use photovoltaic panels, pumps, and fans to convert sunlight into useful outputs. Passive solar techniques include selecting materials with favorable thermal properties, designing spaces that naturally circulate air, and referencing the position of a building to the Sun. Active solar technologies increase the supply of energy and are considered supply side technologies, while passive solar technologies reduce the need for alternate resources and are generally considered demand side technologies.”
I do not comprehend what they mean. Do active thinger-majiggers move toward the sun, and passive ones just sit there and absorb the sunlight?

Q&A: CAN SOMEONE GIVE SOME ADVICE ON HOW TO SAVE ON MY ELECTRICITY BILL?
Aug 3rd
Question by Meuy V:
Can someone give some advice on how to save on my electricity bill?
For some reason, I got my electricity bill this month and it was 300 dallors. Almost tripled from last month. I live in Texas, in a 1100 sq. ft. apartment, downstairs, hardwood floors, with lots of windows, built in the 30′s, recently renovated. It’s central heat and air. Summers in Texas are hot and I expected a high bill for it, but this was higher and it is almost winter. It got kinda cold for like a week and a half and I had the heat on. But the majority of the time my heat and air have been off. I called the electric company and spent an hour on the phone with them, but of course they could not help me. They did instruct me how to read the meter and I did. I did the calculations and the meter read was right. I just cannot believe I used 2400 kilowatts vs 787 kilowatts last billing cycle. Plus, they lowered my charge per kilowatt. What is going on? I am afraid it will be the same next billing cycle since the winter is just starting. Also, I just moved into this apartment in September.
