ENERGY SAVING OR NOT? DOES IT REALLY SAVE ENERGY TO TURN OFF LIGHT BULBS, TV’S ETC. WHEN LEAVING A ROOM?
Sep 6th
Question by arkiemom:
Energy saving or not? Does it really save energy to turn off light bulbs, TV’s etc. when leaving a room?
I have heard the argument that turning lights etc. off and on actually uses more energy than just leaving them on if you are only going to be gone from the room for a few minutes. Is there any proof one way or the other? Or a “rule of thumb” to determine how long you should be gone before energy savings would be evident?
Also – what about frequently used computers? Which is more energy efficient – leaving them on stand-by or shutting down absolutely between uses?

Energy saving light bulbs, Do they last a lot longer, worth the money?. Is it a large con?
I have to make the switch now to these new fangled energy saving light bulbs as they have stopped making classic ones where I live but I almost choked at the price, 10 Euro a bulb! and I have seven lights in my living room/ kitchen. So do these really last a lot longer than the classic, i hope so! It states 6 years on the packet, Why are they so large and unsightly though ?very difficult to find the tiny round ones.
