Answer by Charlotte L
i think this will work…
Go to apple icon on the top bar and click system preferences then click the energy saver lightbulb icon. Then click Battery and you can select how long you want your personal to be left idle before the display goes to sleep.

Question by Claudio F:
Is the solar energy sector going to grow?
I know that solar energy is the future, but i also know that there are 200 years of coal reserves in America. Is global warming really a problem due to CO2 emissions, or is ethanol the energy solution for the future?

——————————————

Answer by Wounded Duck
Hope so

Answer by merdenoms
Unfortunately there is not one solution.

As demand for power and fuel grows steadily in the coming decades, we must think about each viable energy source at hand if we’re to meet the worlds needs. And because clean natural gas is found in abundance there is tiny doubt that it will play a major roll on the world energy stage in this century, much like oil did in the last. But, like oil, gas reserves are concentrated in just a few places in the world usually far from where they’re needed most. And that’s only part of the challenge. The world has had well over 100 years to search for oil and to build the necessary infrastructure to bring it to market; the natural gas infrastructure, particularly when it comes to liquefied natural gas (LNG), is not almost as developed. So what needs to be done? On the supply side, producing nations need policies that grant for efficient development of their natural gas in an open, stable business environment, not one in which the rules of the game change without warning. The governments of consuming nations, on the other hand, must enact long-term policies to encourage such development and to ensure they’ll have sufficient supplies in the future. That means building the related infrastructure, including LNG terminals. This, in turn, will require coastal communities to grant these necessary, but not necessarily pretty, facilities to be built in their backyards. And energy companies have a responsibility to be good neighbors in those communities by operating these facilities responsibly and safely. They must also continue to invest the billions of dollars needed to build the complex transport and storage infrastructure required to bring more gas to market. Expanding and diversifying energy sources by using more natural gas could lead to lower fuel prices and to greater energy security.

Answer by NormalGuy
Ethanol more than Solar

Solar is too bulky and dependent
Ethanol gums up current engines ( need more work )

Global warming is BS

——————————————
I need tips on going green, saving energy, and being a superior person!

Thank you so much :
[:

——————————————

Answer by raquel m
umm… dont burn tires

and recycle!

Answer by Spooky
Funny thing about going green is that so many things aren’t actually superior for the environment, they just have different ways of polluting it. For instance, regular light bulbs versus the halogen bulbs. Regular light bulbs use much more energy, but they do not contain awesome elements like mercury in them like halogen bulbs do. Oh, and recycling for other things? Recycling often takes more energy to recycle something rather than it just decomposing. Not to mention, you often have to drive to a recycling center in the first place. What will we do with all the hybrid automobile batteries when those automobiles die? Oh, em, recycle them or throw them away somewhere.

Just do some common sense things, turn the lights off when you are not in the room, turn the heat/AC down/up a few degrees. Conserve driving and do all your trips in one day, public transportation if you can, carpool. Ask for paper instead of plastic because it decomposes easier. Drink tap water instead of buying bottled water.

I’m just personally dubious of anything labeled by a company as “green.” You can purchase Al Gore’s “Inconvenient Truth” in a box with a halogen light bulb wrapped in THREE sheets of plastic and cardboard. Hypocrisy for the lose.

Answer by lostrelic
stop buying throw away clothes like the swifer wetjet. getting those new light bulbs are great if they did not come with 15 feet of plastic to wrap them. also try reusing cell phones and try not replacing personal and other gadgets each six months have you seen the amount of personal and music garbage we throw away in a year?

——————————————

Answer by Amy L
Nothing lasts forever.

Answer by setmefree_4eva
stupid question

Answer by thebigm57
Who states electricity lasts for ever? As with many of our resources we tend to think we have an unlimited supply…It’s funny how we are finally waking up to realize this is not the case. Electricity is generated utilizing many methods most of which involve utilizing fuels that are in a say of diminishing supply. Renewables are a very, very small percentage of the overall photo and even they aren’t enough (assuming everyone converts to them) to stave off the inevitable. We are simply running out of fuel to supply power. Now, we could stave off/delay the time we run out by conserving and converting to renewables where possible even at our HOMES. In fact if we all converted we had be able to lower fuel costs for a time by allowing more to be allocated for our cars, trucks, trains, planes, and other transit needs. Eeven with that conservation from using fuel to provide electricity and diverting the supply to transit…we’d still run out sooner rather than later. We are simply wasteful and inefficient in utilizing our resources…have been for eons…will continue to be. PEACE!

Question by geeks_gadgets:
Can a 18W solar panel charge two automobile batteries? I am planning going solar, thanks?
And also, can I connect the 18watt solar panel to a 800 watt power inverter?
I wanna use a automobile battery to charge home stuffs. I wanna connect the Inverter, the batteries and the solar panel. I just wanna know in a sunny day will it charge the whole battery? I just want the inverter to convert the power from the battery.

——————————————

Answer by Keith
The automobile batteries will charge fine but slow, if the panels output is over the 12.5v that automobile batteries usually sit at. Also, the panels voltage output might get loaded down by the automobile batteries and not get charged. Automobiles charging systems usually put out 14.1 to 14.4v to keep the battery charged. The 800 watt power inverter might be basically worthless with only 18w going into it.

——————————————

Question by southern belle:
Going green: Do you have to unplug your Television in order to really save energy?
I’ve heard that you have to unplug electrical items in order to save energy. Turning them off alone is not good enough if it’s still plugged in, something about it still taking energy – ghost energy or whatever. This is something I am pulling from the back of my mind, so I am not sure if this is true or not. And if it is true, are people really practicing this as part of this Going Green Movement?

I have heard that you can save on your energy bill by unplugging such things as computers, TV’s, & major appliances (no, not fridge or freezer!) if you are going to be away from home for awhile. Does anyone know if this is true, what kind of savings are we speaking here? Also, would really like links to any sites that discuss such things. (Please do not just tell me to Google it, I know that much already.) Thanks!

Question by Steve:
How is wind energy going to create jobs?
Not including the green jobs the free market has already taken into account.
Wind energy costs 25% more than coal. In essence our energy productivity will go down by 25%.
Whenever has productivity going down created jobs?
Do not give me the foreign oil, the only time foreign oil is used in energy production is for peeker plants. Wind can not replace that.
As an engineer I like the idea of power and all kinds of power. Also as an engineer I can not see a more costly means creating jobs.
The 25% more espensive is from my Mechanical ENgineering hand book.
One coal generator vs. about 10,000 for wind for the same power.
where to begin.
I am an engineer.
We wast more energy at night than we currently or probale ever will get from wind.
If you borrow money to put in a plant, the building of the plant is a net zero jobs. As jobs are eliminated from other areas as you pay that back.
Wind will take jobs away from other industries, raise your monthly rate, taking jobs away from other areas.
I never stated I was against wind (although we should focus on storage first) I just asked how it would create jobs.
We can still make coal and Nuclear cheaper as well. It was not that long ago the guy designed the new hopper (funny shaped) that prevented cloggs.
Thunder B,
I have evidence from several engineering manual. The link ou produced neglects the energy wasted due to the fact the wind does not blow.
If wind was cheaper it would go in under private investment. And T BOONE pickens would not need money to get it going.
qris,
Productivity decreasing does not create jobs. It might increase the job for that industry, but that means it must cost more and decrease jobs elsewhere. If you it takes a plumber 2X as long as one, you will be out more on plumbing and less on other things.

Answer by Keith B
3 million people with jobs to blow really hard to turn the turbines?

Now everything on my 220 line is not working correctly. Dryer is running but not heating. air is running but not cold. microwave is running but not turning. I checked and we do have full power in the lines. What happened?
I used an ohms meter into the outlet and the reading came out at 126 on each side. that is how I teated the power. I borrowed one from someone at work. also none of the breakers are tripped. this makes no sense to me
i put the ohms reader into a 220 outlet each side read around 126 each of resistance. that should mean that I am getting a total of 220 volts correct? I will call an electrician if I have to. I was hoping to fix this on my own hoping it was a no brainer. Thank you for your help but please there is no reason to be mean……Kimberly
