and i was thinking of using a automobile battery for power storage, is this appropriate? what are the possible limitations of doing this, are there any hazards?

Love the energy saving light bulbs, but a couple of have exploded and/or burned out in less than a year. Why?
Are these energy saving light bulbs more hazardous than they are worth? The exploding aspect worries me, though I cannot find much written about it. I am seriously considering replacing all of the ones in my home with traditional bulbs, but I know that is going to drive my electric bill up. What are your thoughts or experiences with these bulbs? What would I need to power a small fan, some LED lights, ect in my home, without spending hundreds or thousands of dollers? How would I set it up? I think I would need a Solar Panel, a AC/DC converter or some kind, and a Battery?
