TO SAVE ENERGY, SHOULD YOU TURN A CENTRAL AIR CONDITIONER OFF WHEN YOU AREN’T HOME?
May 24th
Question by divadev:
To save energy, should you turn a central air conditioner off when you aren’t home?
I have central a/c in my home. I used to turn it off during the day when I am not home, but someone told me that it costs more money to cool down a hot home, then it does to let the a/c run all day. If that is true, what is the ideal temperature for energy efficiency and cooling?

Q&A: HOW CAN I SAVE ENERGY WITH CENTRAL AIR CONDITIONING?
May 18th
Question by maria v:
How can I save energy with central air conditioning?
I just moved into the new apartment where I have to pay utilities separately and we have central AC, so I need advice how to save money. Is it cheaper if I keep it off when no one’s home and then turning it on again later? And does the temperature play a role in this too? Is there a difference if I set it at 75 or 65 degrees for instance?

Q&A: HOW CAN I SAVE ON ELECTRICITY WITH MY CENTRAL AIR?
Mar 14th
Question by Miami G:
how can i save on electricity with my central air?
i was told to leave my a/c on 80 degrees, but i noticed when it’s on that it goes on and off so frequently, is not that pulling energy and will raise the price. I am just wanting to save in electric bill with the raising gas prices and oil prices making FLORIDA charge an extra 15% on our electric utilities. Please advise of what is a good temperature to leave my thermostat that will not be so costly. FYI i am on the 2nd floor of a two story building.

WITH CENTRAL AC, DOES IT SAVE MORE ELECTRICITY TO LEAVE THEM ON ALWAYS OR SET TO AUTO?
Aug 30th
Question by real_ki:
With Central AC, does it save more electricity to leave them on always or set to auto?
I have a central A/C unit in a two story house.
We usually set the temperature to 80F and set the fan to “Auto” which basically turn on the fan and the cooling when temperature goes above the set temperature.
There’s also “On” setting for the fan which will keep the fan running always and I assume the cooling too maybe?(or maybe the cooling is turned on when temperature goes above the set temperature).
Which will save more electricity? Setting the fan setting to “auto” or “on”?

Question by dont rob me:
How massive of a solar panel is needed to power a typical home central air unit?
I would like to offset my air conditioning bills by purchasing a solar panel setup. I guess the questions that need answered are these:
How much power does a central air unit use? 220 Volts / 8 Amps Sound about right?
How massive of a solar array will I need to power this non-stop during peak daylight/sunlight hours?

WOULD IT SAVE ENERGY IF I TURNED THE CENTRAL AIR DOWN LOW AND HAD FANS CIRCULATING?
Jul 17th
Question by two_kee_kees:
Would it save energy if I turned the central air down low and had fans circulating?
I am trying so hard to keep my bills down. Would it save much energy if I turned my A/C down to about 74 or 76 and then had my ceiling fan on high in the living room and a circulating fan upstairs? (I live in a smaller townhouse). Or is that defeating the purpose?
