Answer by syco noodles
yes they do consume less power than normal tvs but you wont really notice the savings due to other electrical goods you have on all the time ,,

Answer by Grumpy Mac
You have to be careful here.

Plasma TVs get really hot and waste a lot of electricity in heat.

LED TVs probably use the least amount of power.

The old CRT TVs are a large tube that would have to heat up to work so tended to use a lot of power, but I dont have real watt numbers for you.

Below is a chart I found with power consumption for specific models.

Answer by 17R3W
LED uses the least,

followed by standard LCD

followed Plasma

Followed by standard TV. That being said, even a standard Television doesn’t use as much as a light bulb.

Question by Anonymous:
How much do the fluorescent light bulb save on monthly electricity bills?
My family currently pays around 100 dollars (Canadian) each month.

——————————————

Answer by happygolucky
After I put them in all of my fixtures my bill went from $ 200 a month down to around $ 120 a month. It was well worth the expense. Also, I have been here now for over two years and have not replaced one yet. Go for it. Good luck…

Answer by highflyer4860
I work for the local utility company and can tell you that it’s impossible to pin down an exact amount. If the $ 100 includes home heating, the amount related to lighting might be fairly low. If your home is heated another way and the $ 100 relates to hot water tank, lighting and general electrical, the percentage related to your lights will be higher. My home is heated by gas and hot water is electric but still found a noticeable drop by switching to CFLs. Do not cheap out though; from my experience, the cheap CFLs do not last almost as long as they say. If you want to experiment, begin with the rooms that have the greatest demand for lights on an hours/day basis.

Answer by midwest
50-80

Answer by Gordon
Don’t use electricity.

Answer by Lerticus Maximus
Use as many high efficiency light bulbs as possible. The initial cost is higher but you will make the money back over time.

Answer by a1 submit
I recently came across this website where they have mentioned this new technologies called voltage optimisation. Voltage optimisation supplies only the required power supply to your home reducing the usage of excess electricity and thus helping you cut cost on your electricity bill. It also helps cut carbon emission. The service is exclusively for home usage. visit: http://vo4home.com (Voltage Optimisation for Home)

Question by Bex:
How do you save money on electricity bills?
Now that it is winter I keep my heat on sparingly and have energy efficient appliances. I also have energy saving light bulbs and try to keep all lights off during the day if possible. What else can I be doing?

——————————————

Answer by ccmorsel
You’re doing it.

Answer by L L
Check your weatherstrips. Light a match and hold it near the doors and windows. If the flame wavers, you have an air leak.

Turn your water heater down, and wrap it in a heater blanket.

Get a On Demand Tankless heater. If only heats water when a hot water faucet is turned on. (they are way too costly in the home improvement stores, but I found on on the web for …. I think it was $ 300. Thats nearly the same price as a new electric one.)

Use the microwave instead of the stove as much as you can.

Unplug chargers, TV, microwave when not in use. Any appliance that has a clock in it ( tv, microwave) is still on, keeping time, even though the other functions are not on.

The 2 biggest expenses in your bill are for heat/AC and water heating.

Answer by Professor Wonderful
Get rid of the energy saving light bulbs. They use too much energy when they are first turned on. The drain on power for those bulbs is all right once they are on, but that initial burst is horrific.

Wear long underwear, especially at night. At night, you can wear a ski cap. The knitting keeps the head warm. The head draws about twenty-five percent of blood flow. Keep the head warm, decrease the need for a higher ambient air temperature.

Sweaters are superior for you during the initial hours in the morning and the hours immediately prior to slumber. The power bill will drop.

Tough, but do-able.

Incidentally, if you successfully do this for twenty-two consecutive days, you will break through the natural resistance we humans have for new habits.

If you are willing to do this for only 22 days, take an “A” and move to the head of the class.

——————————————

Answer by thor
Where do you live- Alaska or Florida? How warm/cold do you want to keep the house? Too many variables. Ask the owner for past power bills from each home to get a relative idea of how much the people that stayed there before you paid.

Answer by SOULZ
30% is what I have read.

But I am very happy to see that you are concerned about environment in a way. Maybe it is good to save money as well

Question by lynn:
How much money can you save on energy bills in newer houses?
I’m looking at renting a home and I am trying to figure out how much money I will save on my energy bill if I rent an new house, opposed to renting an old home with cheaper rent but that is less energy efficient.

——————————————

Answer by Hertha
About 30%, so I have heard

Answer by Zeltar
There are too many factors to know.

1) The age of the home is not the guiding factor. If the aging home has been highly maintained, with replacement windows, roofing done each 20 years, and the insulation is the same as the new house…. then the age is not a factor.

2) The size of the home is one of the biggest factors to energy consumption. If you are moving from a 700 square foot apartment to a 1500 square foot home, the home could very well cost more to heat/cool (assuming insulation is comparable).

3) Electric vs. Gas furnace and water heater has an impact to energy consumption. A natural Gas furnace and water heater will use less energy than an electric system (no matter the age of the home they are in). Also, the newer the equipment (not the house), the more energy efficient it will be. Filters should also be replaced ever 3 months on the furnace (and air conditioning).

4) Types of window treatments (curtains, shades), trees, and amount of reflective surfaces (i.e. pavement) in and around the home impacts heating/cooling efficiency.

——————————————
Has anyone tried that?
