IS IT BETTER TO WASTE ENERGY TO SAVE WATER, OR WASTE WATER TO SAVE ENERGY?
Feb 6th
Question by David S:
Is it superior to waste energy to save water, or waste water to save energy?
Specifically, I am wondering if a recirculating whole-house water pump, which keeps hot(ish) water circulating through the pipes makes sense. Currently, it takes literally one full minute (OK, 57 seconds in my test today) for hot water to reach the sink in our upstairs lavatory from the water heater tank in the basement. A recirculating pump would reduce that time to zero and save a lot of wasted water (not to mention getting my kiddos to wash those germies with warm water), but it would waste some energy heating the water in the pipes (which can’t be insulated as well as a tank) and moving it around. Do the water savings justify the increased energy use?

Will a 11watt philips energy saving bulb be superior than a normal 40 watt household bulb to begin seedlings?
I’m starting off some tomato seedlings underneath a small bulb then transplanting outside. The energy saving bulb is a lot more brighter but doesn’t get as warm as the other.

IS IT BETTER TO KEEP YOUR HEAT AT 65 OR 62 AS FAR AS SAVING ENERGY?
May 24th
I was shocked when I saw my propane bill for 4.65 a gallon. My home has propane heating and I have been keeping my heat at 62 to save energy, but I was wondering if it actually spends more gas, for it is turning on pretty often. Would it be superior to keep it at 65? thank you.
