Every summer the energy bills kill us. All of our windows face west and we do not get any breeze. We have an old central air, which does its job but is not very energy efficient.
I’m thinking about buying a new air conditioner, window or portable. Which do you think would be better? (We live in a one bed room apartment which is about 650sqft) Does installing some kind of reflective films on the windows work? I also heard that bamboo sheets can keep you cool at night in bed. Has anyone tried that?

What equipment do I need and how do I put together a wind turbin generator to supply power to a small cabin?
I must add for all of you doubters out there, I have been successfully living off the grid for a year now, and I use one battery. I have an inverter and I can power everything I need from a single battery if I am conservative, which we all should be. I would just like to be able to charge the battery more conveniently, and from what I have heard wind power is an effecient renewable resource.
