I’m designing an LED lamp and need to convert 120v to 12v for my circuit. What is the simplest/safest way?
I know I can use an AC adaptor but I want to create the transformer myself. Most LED designs seem to run off batteries but I want my lamp to plug into the wall/mains. I am new to wiring but have done basic soldering and could handle a design using basic resistors/capacitators/whatever else I might need.

The simplest adapter uses a linear regulator. Switching adapters are much more complex. The attached reference shows the steps involved in constructing a typical linear power supply. It’s a good place to start.

I have what looks to be 2 LED lights that have a plug on the end that is the same size as a headphone jack. I thought that this was a set of LED lights, but I dont know where to hook them up at or what to plug them into. I need a tiny help on figuring out what this is.
