There are many ways to save energy around the house and ultimately reduce your electricity bill:
1) saving money is as simple as screwing in a lighbulb…literally! Change your incandescent lightbulbs to CFLs: they use 75% less energy and last 13 times longer. Thats an energy savings of $ 35 over the life of the bulb!
Use under-floor heating systems to help distribute heat evenly through the floor, where the heat is then absorbed by objects in the room and then distrivuted throughout the room. This will also reduce the use of air-heating systems, which will also help promote good indoor air quality by reducing the amount of allergens and dust from being blown around your home.
2) Replace your old doors and windows (that leak your nicely heated air outside, and bring in the frigid cold air inside) with energystar rated windows and doors. it can lower your energy bill drastically!
3) Make sure to have good insulation. Insulating your attic and basement can reduce the heat from escaping. Plus it will save you money.
4)Install an aerator on those faucets that are used more throughout your home (like in the bathroom and kitchen) can help you cut down on your water usage. Install a low-flow shower head in your shower to help with even more energy savings.
5) Install programmable thermostats in your home that can help you control your energy usage. Its easy to forget to turn down your heat or A/C when youre gone to work, or even at night. It can help you reduce your energy bill by as much as 30%.
6) Purchase energy-star applicances for your home. Doing so will help you cut back on energy consumption. Newer models are more energy efficient than conventional models.
7) Plant shade trees in your yard. During the summer, you will block out the sun’s rays, reducing the amount of energy you would need to cool your home. During the winter, with all the leaves gone, the nice sun will shine bright in your home, helping to warm your house up. Although it will only work on the days when the sun is out, it will help you reduce some energy consumption.
I have added some sites for you to check out and read for more info and tips!
