7) Plant shade trees in your yard. During the summer, you will block out the sun’s rays, reducing the amount of energy you would need to cool your home. During the winter, with all the leaves gone, the nice sun will shine bright in your home, helping to warm your house up. Although it will only work on the days when the sun is out, it will help you reduce some energy consumption. Use under-floor heating systems to help distribute heat evenly through the floor, where the heat is then absorbed by objects in the room and then distrivuted throughout the room. This will also reduce the use of air-heating systems, which will also help promote good indoor air quality by reducing the amount of allergens and dust from being blown around your home.
