I have energy saving bulbe in the complete house. I had aproblem with 1 bulb. It was one particular make only. It didnt explode but made a sizzling noise and had a bulge in the side of it! I took it to the fire dept and showed them. They said they had no fires due to this and only heard of 1 other case. They said not to worry. I took it back to where i bought it and got a free one . Have had no others do this!!!The bulb in question was made in china, thailand or some where like that!!Stay away from bulbs made in the east i would say!!!

I personally don’t have any experience/knowledge of bulb exploding.
Suggest to buy a reputed brand/brand friends and relatives have used without facing this problem. Using lower wattage may also be a good idea but technically speaking it should not make any difference.

I haven’t had any explode at my home, but I saw on the news a report that said you should vacate a room and open windows if this happens. The mercury inside the bulbs is harmful when vaporized and you should avoid breathing it in. I believe the report recommended staying out of the area for at least 10 minutes and then cleaning the floor area under where the light exploded. But don’t vacuum as that can put the mercury particles back into the air.

i’ve used these since they first came out, we’ve given hundreds of them away as gifts & we use them @ work, & this is the first time i’ve EVER heard about this
you may have to much wattage in the socket?
their wattage really doesn’t match the old ones, much lower (example 35=100) use the lower #
best of luck
