Set thermostat at 78 degrees or higher when the house is occupied, and at 85 degrees when vacant (save 1 – 2 percent per degree raised on cooling costs).

use power strips to turn on and off items that use transformers or use a constant power drain. ie: dvd players, vcr’s, stereos with clocks that you don’t use, computer accessories …..

change your light bulbs use timers don’t use a.c.s just open windows and use fans… change your window and door insulation……. plastic basement windows if older home……

cover windows with plastic or seal the cracks with caulk. Set air a couple degrees higher. Turn off lights when not in the room. Make sure doors don’t have leaks by putting rubber strips along the bottom. Turn water heater down some, it doesn’t need to scald you. wash laundry in cold water, they have soap for this now.

i don’t know if i can list 50 but i’ll try
1. Turn off the lights when not in the room
2. it takes more energy to start your ac so leave it on just turn it down <– it takes too much energy to get the coils cold in back if you leave it on it will stay cold
3. buy low volt light bulbs
4. use candles at night
5.make sure nothing is like coffee pot radio tv when your not home
6. cook on a grill when it’s warm out side not in the house
7. look at any new purchuse for house hold items and read the volt or watt out put and go with the lowest!
8. don’t leave your computer on all day!
9. only use half your house in power <– go down and switch the braker so you don’t use it!
10. Double check your breaker box to ensure everything is updated and current!
11. read more then watch tv by candle light or out side
12. vacume 1 time a week and no more!
13. try not to use hairdryers let it air dry or towel dry
14. When charging your phone dont use it!
15. get battery clocks
16. use elbow crease instead of power tools
17. keep company at a low – to much and too much power
18. change your furnace filter every month
19. ensure you have no leaks in windows or drafts it will help you lose your heat / air
20. the fridge door was ment to be shut! don’t hang on the door trying to find out what you want to eat… know before you open the door
21. Check the seal on your fridge
22. Don’t use a small pan on a large burner on your stove top
23. only run full loads of dishwasher!
24. run only full loads of laundry
25.when using a dryer they don’t have to be completely dry before you take them out just hang the semi damp clothes on a line,
26. when drying clothes do it all together while the dryer is warm
27. get dimmers for your lights!
28. un plugg anything not in use! it still drains some electricity if plugged in!

go for Solar power its cheap,free and environmentally friendly.Even on cloudy days it heats water hot enogh to drink tea & coffee!!
