No they do not harm your vision or anything else. The “many beams” or “few beams” is junk science made up words that sound good but mean nothing. White light is made up of all the colors of the rainbow, old incandescent bulbs give off a very ‘warm’ colored light orangey red. While many of the twisty bulbs give off light closer to that of natural sunlight with more bluish and greenish light, that the old bulbs lack. I personally like the ‘warm’ light better it seems less sterile and more friendly to me. Others might say it looks dingy and yellow. It’s a personal preference.
I would just try another brand of twisty bulb. They are cheaper in the long run and better for the environment. And some imitate that old fashioned bulbs very well. Avoid any that say ‘daylight’ ‘closer to sunlight’ or ‘pure white’

LOL, “they have many beams of light coming out of them, instead of just one or a few”? What you think there is just one light wave coming out of a regular light bulb? Do you have any idea how many billions of photons come out of that little LED standby light from your DVD player every second?
You’re talking like an idiot, really. The only reason you felt nauseous and had headaches is because you expected to have them. You probably go to school or work and have large flourescent tubes above you head for 8 hours at a time. Do you think there is any difference?
Well, there is. Those long tubes that have been used for decades are just CFL’s on a larger scale. More light (which means more “radiation”, ohhh, such a scary word!), more heat, and yes, more mercury. Why do you not complain about those? Because they are not associated with environmentalism. You’re just an ‘anti-green’ moron sheep who can’t think for two seconds for himself.
Seriously. Learn some science.

they can flicker if you have poor power supply. but otherwise should be fine. Had mostly flouro lights for past 30 yrs, still not blind.

I have them throughout my house and dont have any flicker from the new ones. But in one of my bathrooms I have two of the old long tubes and one always flickers, I have replaced it but it’s the fixture. Doesnt bother me enough to replace. And the new ones have come a long way, they have dimmable ones and the kind that look just like the yellowish color of the warm old ones.

That’s a great decision you made in the first instance to installed energy saving light bulbs in some strategic places where you will need light most in your house. I must tell you this will save your monthly light bill indirectly. However, energy saving light bulbs does not have negative effect as you think. I think It was stuff that people say that made you conclude. With time you will get use to it. these is a great report where you can manage your light bill and installation process.

No. You are probably thinking of eye fatigue caused by the older generation of fluorescent that would flicker on and off at 60 cycles per second. The new bulbs don’t do that.
