Sure, less bulbs assuming they are of equal wattage means less wattage and hence savings.
however, you could live in the dark and really save some money.
Hows about you consider the cost of LIGHT, that is, how much light per watt of energy do you get ????
Look at compact flourescent bulbs to replace incandescent bulbs. For the same quantity of light, they use one fourth the power ! There is where you get your savings.
A 13 watt compact flourescent from Phillips produces the same light as a 60 watt incandescent and very little heat.
I just bought a eight pack of these bulbs for 7 dollars on sale.
cheap to buy, cheap to operate, now that is what I call savings.
There may be even tax savings for purchase of energy efficient bulbs.
I have had better luck with brand name bulbs, sylvania, GE, Phillips versus store brand, whether it be compact flourescents or incadescent bulbs.
You can only use CF bulbs on circuits that dont have a dimmer. They also will not work well in extreme cold.
You can always change out your dimmer switch if you want to use CF bulbs in a fixture that is currently on a dimmer.
