65 is low in the first place, my house is on 78, it used to be on 68 before but we saved WAY more money on 78. It takes a while to get used to the heat but after you do its great

The colder your thermostat, the less energy you’ll be using to heat the house.
True, once you have a baseline temperature, they will use very similar electricity amounts, but the second you open a door and the average temperature drops, you’re going to spend less time heating to 62 instead of 65.

Keep it at 62. Close vents and doors to the rooms you are least often in. Trust me you will save lots of money!

It will take less energy to maintain the house at a temperature of 62 than it would at 65. The house is not air tight, and is constantly losing heat to the outdoors. The hotter the house, the faster heat will be lost to the outdoors. The higher the thermostat setting, the longer it will take for the heater to run. Let me illustrate. If the outside temp is a constant 50 F, and the inside of the house has a temp of 50 F, the heater will take longer to heat the house to 65 F than 62 F. To illustrate further, with the outside temp at 50 F, and the inside temp at 65 F, the furnace will come on more often and/or run longer to maintain the temp at 65 F than at 62 F. You will always save energy with thermostats set at a lower setting.

It is better to set your temperature as low as you can tolerate. I set my temps around 60 and put on some sweatpants or something comfortable. The lower you set your thermostat, the more you will save on energy costs. Going from 62 to 65 will definitely increase your gas usage and will increase your gas costs..
When you leave home for going to work/shopping–turn heat OFF-or or set to 40 . it will take some time to reheat when you return- but will save you a lot of money in the long run

It’s up to you there is not much of a savings. The average savings is 1% per degree. So if your bill is $100.00 you would only save $3.00 a month. Is it worth $3.00 a month to be cold and uncomfortable.
